Recently, in the estate of Ida Simons (1911-1960) libretto and score found by the short opera ‘ Ludmilla ‘, once performed in camp Westerbork in June 1944.
‘Ludmilla or corpses on the assembly line’ is a short parodical opera Willy Rosen with music of Erich Ziegler – with three knights, a maiden, a page, choir and ballet – and is staged in Westerbork by the company of Max Ehrlich, with Otto Aurich, Franz Engel, Esther Philipse and Jetty Cantor.
Performing in revue or cabaret meant a temporarily delay on transport. But in the end also all artists from Westerbork were transported. Transports usually took place on Tuesday morning, the concerts, revues and cabaret sketches were on Tuesday evening. The Bühne Gruppe around Max Ehrlich provided such ‘ parties ‘ six times, the last in June 1944, with after the break this recovered opera.
The restaging of “Ludmilla”, under the working title ‘ Total Verrückt or Cabaret in hell ‘ is currently being prepared by Eva Buchmann (Director), Marcel Worms (music), Mirjam Groote Gansey (decor), Jorge Brook (costumes) and Ben Hurkmans (dramaturgy).
This production is expected to have a performing period from the spring of 2018 on.
